Dr Ammar Al-Bazi gained his Ph.D. in simulation and optimisation from Teesside University, UK in 2010. He received MS.c. in Operational Research and applied statistics from Baghdad University in 1998 and was awarded his B.Sc. (ranked 1/70 student) in Operational Research in 1995. He has extensive experience in water resource management, having developed a number of inflow forecasting models for a number of Iraqi dams using advanced models such as Multiplicative and Adaptive forecasting. In addition, he has formulated a number of mathematical programming models embedded in these forecasting models using techniques such as fuzzy logic, discrete differential dynamic programming, chanced constrained linear programming, and traditional linear programming to optimise the overall water resources distribution process

His research interests include simulation modelling, artificial intelligence, optimisation, business computing and applied statistics. He has been involved in a number of research projects to improve the performance of precast manufacturing systems across the UK. He developed many process maps, activity cycle diagrams and 3D visualised simulation models for a number of industries including precast concrete, doorsets, and trailer companies. He has more than 14 years’ teaching experience and has written more than 40 research papers

Recently he has been heavily involved in the Truck Train project as a simulation expert. This project is a £1.2m project funded by the British Technology Strategy Board (TSB) with one of the main aims being to reduce CO2 emissions of containerised freight transport. This is to be achieved by facilitating the movement of freight containers from road to rail and optimising the overall system

Currently he is a key member of the business improvement centre. This centre is an expert group in the field of Operational Research within the Faculty of Engineering and Computing at Coventry University. The centre provides planning and scheduling, process visual mapping, (2D-3D) simulation modelling and mathematical programming modelling services. This research centre has extensive experience in Cost Reduction, Business Efficiency Improvement, Optimal Decision Making, Inventory Control and Forecasting, Resource Allocation, Water Resources Management, and Modelling and Visualisation

In September 2011, Dr Al-Bazi organised an Operational Research society conference stream (OR in Construction Management). In May 2012, he was also a Program Committee Member of the IIAI/ACIS International Symposium on Industrial Information Management and System (IIMS 2012) which was held in Shanghai, China

Dr Al-Bazi is currently supervising a PhD student in the area of reverse logistics and optimisation. Since 2010, he has been appointed as an editorial board member of the Journal of Construction Engineering, Technology and Management, India and as International Journal of Transport and Logistics (IJTL), Malaysia Institute of Transport (MITRANS)
